How It Works
This tool queries a third-party IP geolocation database that maps IP address ranges to their registered network owner, ASN (Autonomous System Number), and an approximate geographic location based on where that network is registered or known to operate. When you enter a domain name, it's resolved to an IP address first.
IP geolocation is inherently approximate. It's commonly accurate to the country and often the region or city, but it is not a substitute for precise, device-level location data, and it can be wrong â especially for mobile networks, VPNs, and cloud/hosting providers where the registered network location differs from where traffic actually originates.
Examples & Common Use Cases
- 8.8.8.8 â Google's public DNS resolver, registered to Google LLC.
- 1.1.1.1 â Cloudflare's public DNS resolver.
- Looking up a domain name resolves it to its current IP first, so results can change if the site moves hosting providers.
